nn, who is expected to fight Rory MacDonald at UFC 152 in Toronto, is leading by example in the campaign to introduce more stringent performance-enhancing drug testing into MMA. He and MacDonald tweeted an agreement to have their September bout sponsored by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association.
Penn tweeted to MacDonald on Tuesday:
. @rory_macdonald VADA anti-doping has offered to sponsor our upcoming fight.I’ve accepted and invite you to help me clean up the sport
. @rory_macdonald VADA results will be released after the fight to ensure that the fight happens. Lets get started asap!!
MacDonald responded:
@bjpenndotcom already worried BJ? honestly i think its a great idea 2, and im ready to do the testing for our fight aswell @danawhite
According to VADA’s Website, Penn and MacDonald will be subject to a testing program similar to what Olympic athletes under go. They will be subject to random testing, and have to submit their whereabouts to VADA so drug testers can show up whenever they like to require a test.
If it’s truly modeled after the Olympic program, Penn and MacDonald need to be ready for knocks on their door at all times of the day and night. Olympians often tweet when the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency shows up at their door, and it’s rarely expected.
Kudos to both men for paying more than lip service to the problem of PEDs in MMA. Penn is a respected veteran, while MacDonald is a young up-and-comer in the sport, and they both recognize the need to be role models. Hopefully, more fighters will follow their lead.

Samoa/Hawaii MMA fighter Deutcsh Pu’u has recently been recognized by the State of Hawaii for his contributions as a Veteran as well as his contributions to his Community. Mayor Peter Carlisle, along with Member’s of the House of Representatives where on hand to show there appreciation to Pu’u and varies other Hawaii Veterans that have made a difference in our community.
For people out there that may not be familiar with Mr. Pu’u, he has done a lot for the People of Samoa, and Hawaii. He is one of the main factors in brining MMA to his home, in “American Samoa”,where if you can’t pay your dues you still have the chance to train with everyone else. He is also a Veteran of the U.S Army, that has been deployed 9 different time, to a few different Countries. He currently help’s run a Gym in Waipio,Oahu, and offers the lowest prices on the Island to at risk youth, and for the kids who can’t afford to pay the $10:00 fee,Pu’u has been known to take care of it himself. When asked why, his replay was “I don’t own the Gym, and I have to turn in some kind of profit to the owner”. Not only is Mr. Pu’u one of the most respected people in the MMA Community, he’s also one of the most sincerest people that I personally know.
What better way to celebrate this Veterans day, then to recognize a person like Deutcsh Pu’u. Mmaabsolute.com would like to take this time to say, thank you to all the Veterans, past and present who risk there lives to keep us safe.
