The next UFC on FOX event is slowly coming together and from the looks of things this will be another great event. Today the UFC announced that Chael Sonnen will be taking on Mark Munoz in the Co-Main Event of The UFC on FOX 2 which will be held in Chicago on January 28th. Despite Sonnen’s unsuccessful and highly publicized attempt to obtain a rematch with the UFC’S long time Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva, who is currently rehabilitating an injury and is expected to return sometime in late 2012. Sonnen and Munoz met once before at a college dueling meet in which Munuz basically manhandled Sonnen, but since then both men are completely different fighters and have improved tremendously. Munoz who’s record stands at 12-2, is currently ranked in the top 10 Middleweight fighters and has beat opponents such as CB Dollaway, Demian Maia, & most recently Chris Leban at UFC 138. In 2001 Munoz captured two Big 12 Titles and earned back to back All America honors at 197 pounds, including his NCAA Title as a senior.
Sonnen’s record stands at 26-11-1 and is maybe the most out spoken person in all of combat sports. His verbal assult on Anderson Silva and the people of Brazil has made him one of the most hated persons in all of South America, but no one can deny the succsess he has had in the cage. Sonnen has beaten fighters like Nate Marquardt, Yushin Okami, & Dan Miller. It is to early to say what the outcome of this fight will be, but one can only speculate about the possibility of a title shot for the winner. Also scheduled to fight on this card will be Rashad Evans set to fight Phil Davis in the Main event, also Demetrious Johnson is fighting against Eddie Wineland, and Jon Olav Einemo is up to fight Mike Russow in the Main card.
