Max Holloway set to take on Dennis Bermudez

Two surging featherweights will collide at UFC 160, promotion officials announced Thursday, as Dennis Bermudez faces Max Holloway.

UFC 160 takes place May 25 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and is headlined by a heavyweight title rematch pitting reigning champion Cain Velasquez against former EliteXC belt holder Antonio Silva. The evening’s main card will also see four heavy hitters lock horns, as Mark Hunt faces Junior dos Santos and James Te Huna meets Glover Teixeira.

Bermudez, 26, rides a three-fight winning streak heading into his showdown with Holloway. “The Menace” introduced himself to UFC fans as a member of “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 14 before falling to Diego Brandao at the live finale in December 2011. The prospect has since gone unbeaten, notching wins over Pablo Garza, Tommy Hayden and Matt Grice, whom Bermudez most recently topped in a “Fight of the Night” winning bout at UFC 157 last month.

Like his foe, Holloway has also won three straight fights, posting a 3-1 record last year. After submitting to Dustin Poirier in his Octagon debut, Holloway, 21, thoroughly outpointed Pat Schilling before knocking out “TUF 14” vet Justin Lawrence last August. Most recently, “Blessed” edged the hard-swinging Leonard Garcia in a Dec. 29 split decision at UFC 155.

UIC 10 Canceld do to renovation at Edith K Stadium

What’s better then watching a great Mixed Martial Arts event? Watching one that didn’t cost you a singale penny. That was the plan for Hilo MMA Promotion Unrothodox Industries Championships “UIC” and Owner Russell Strong, but because of reasons that he had no control over that plan is going to have to wait. On December 22nd the UIC Promotion was set to hold there tenth event at the Edith Kanaka’ole Tennis Stadium, Free to the public but due to renovations that will be going on this event will have to wait. On November 29th Contractors put in there bid for the 2 Million dollor contract in which they will be improving the restrooms, expand the concession area, add landscaping and, add new dressing rooms for halau participating in the Merrie Monarch Festival, which is held at the Hilo stadium, because of the up coming Merry Monarch Festival which is scheduled for March 31-April 6 the county felt they needed to start asap, even though they had agreed to hold UIC’s event. For MMA Fan’s, Fighter’s, and there family this is a huge blow not only because this was history in the making considering no one has ever held a free Mixed Martial Arts event, but also for the family’s, and friend’s who made there flight & Hotel arrangements, this might be money down the tube.

We spoke with UIC Promotor/Owner Russell Strong today to get his thoughts and feeling on this subject. “You known I really feel bad for the Fighters and there Family, For the Fighters it’s like all that time training, and sacrifice they did is all for not and that time they will never get back” Strong went on to say “For me it is what it is. It’s out of my hands and there is really nothing I can do. The County has a job to do and I know they feel bad about the situation”  Strong told MMAAbsolute.com that UIC 10 will still go on when they can get a new date but for now UIC 10 is on hold. As soon as we find out  when this show will be moving forward we will like you the fans know.
