Max Holloway set to take on Dennis Bermudez

Two surging featherweights will collide at UFC 160, promotion officials announced Thursday, as Dennis Bermudez faces Max Holloway.

UFC 160 takes place May 25 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and is headlined by a heavyweight title rematch pitting reigning champion Cain Velasquez against former EliteXC belt holder Antonio Silva. The evening’s main card will also see four heavy hitters lock horns, as Mark Hunt faces Junior dos Santos and James Te Huna meets Glover Teixeira.

Bermudez, 26, rides a three-fight winning streak heading into his showdown with Holloway. “The Menace” introduced himself to UFC fans as a member of “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 14 before falling to Diego Brandao at the live finale in December 2011. The prospect has since gone unbeaten, notching wins over Pablo Garza, Tommy Hayden and Matt Grice, whom Bermudez most recently topped in a “Fight of the Night” winning bout at UFC 157 last month.

Like his foe, Holloway has also won three straight fights, posting a 3-1 record last year. After submitting to Dustin Poirier in his Octagon debut, Holloway, 21, thoroughly outpointed Pat Schilling before knocking out “TUF 14” vet Justin Lawrence last August. Most recently, “Blessed” edged the hard-swinging Leonard Garcia in a Dec. 29 split decision at UFC 155.

Hawaii’s Max “Blessed”Holloway set to take on Leonard Garcia at UFC 155

Max Holloway (6-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) has answered the UFC’s call.

The 21-year-old Hawaiian has agreed to step up on 10-days’ notice and will now face Leonard Garcia (15-9-1 MMA, 2-5 UFC) at this month’s UFC 155 event.

UFC officials today announced the new booking, which sees Holloway step in for an injured Cody McKenzie.

UFC 155 takes place Dec. 29 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The main event is a heavyweight title fight rematch between champion Junior Dos Santos and ex-titleholder Cain Velasquez, which headlines the pay-per-view portion of the show.

Holloway, who turned 21 just two weeks ago, looks to earn his third straight UFC win. The featherweight was overwhelmed in his UFC debut, a February submission loss to Dustin Poirier. However, he’s since bounced back witha decision win over Pat Schilling and an impressive TKO finish of “The Ultimate Fighter 15″ cast member Justin Lawrence.

Holloway now fights for the fourth time in 2012.

Meanwhile, Garcia looks to snap a three-fight losing streak after falling short against Matt Grice, Nam Phan and Chan Sung Jung. Fighting under the Zuffa banner since 2007, Garcia is unquestionably one of the organization’s most exciting fighters, as witnessed by his six “Fight of the Night” bonus awards during his time in the UFC and WEC. Still, at 1-4 in his past five outings, “Bad Boy” is likely in need of a positive result.

With the change, the UFC 155 card now includes:

MAIN (Pay-per-view, 10 p.m. ET)

  • Junior dos Santos vs. Cain Velasquez – for heavyweight title
  • Joe Lauzon vs. Jim Miller
  • Tim Boetsch vs. Constantinos Philippou
  • Alan Belcher vs. Yushin Okami
  • Derek Brunson vs. Chris Leben

PRELIMINARY (FX, Facebook)

  • Melvin Guillard vs. Jamie Varner*
  • Brad Pickett vs. Eddie Wineland
  • Erik Perez vs. Byron Bloodworth
  • Michael Johnson vs. Myles Jury
  • Leonard Garcia vs. Max Holloway
  • Philip De Fries vs. Todd Duffee

Max Holloway Vs Justin Lawrence Booked for UFC 150

The UFC has announced another bout for the  August 11,2012 UFC 150 Card in Denver colorado, and this one has fireworks written all over it, as featherweight kickboxing dynamos, Max Holloway and Justin Lawrence, are scheduled to face off, with Lawrence dropping down to 145 lbs. after previously competing at lightweight. Holloway, a Hawaiian native, got thrown to the wolves when he faced  Dustin Poirier on short notice in his UFC debut, but the 19-year old (the youngest active fighter in the UFC) proved he belonged in his next bout, an utterly one-sided beatdown of  Pat Schilling where Holloway nearly finished his hapless opponent with strikes on numerous occasions. Lawrence was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the most recent season of The Ultimate Fighter, but his flashy kickboxing turned a lot of heads, including that of  John Cofer, who Lawrence knocked out in sensational fashion via high kick at the season finale last month.
